Now that you've written and published your book, you want to get it in the hands of people other than your friends and family.  How do you get people to sit up, take notice and maybe even buy?  The following are some sites that will help you to promote your self-published book to a wider audience of readers and the all-important reviewers. Keep in mind that you'll need to be creating ebooks to take advantage of these particular sites.

BookDaily
BookDaily invites you to set up a free author account to promote your book to their readers. The site introduces authors to new readers by providing a sample chapter from the author's books. In any given day, over 100,000 sample chapters are sent to their readers by email.

It only takes a few minutes to set up your account and you may see your book next to those by best-selling authors on BookDaily.com.

On your account, you can upload the first chapter of your book, your bio and photo, a link to your book's website and even a video about your book.

Bookrooster
Bookrooster will share your Kindle ebook with a readers who have an interest in your book's genre. You'll need to pay the site $67, but you will receive reviews from real people on Amazon.  You are NOT paying for "good" reviews.  If the reviewers like your book, they'll give it a good review.  If they don't, they won't - you take your chances.  Of course, if you are offering your book on Amazon or any of the other ecommerce sites, you may get less than positive reviews anyway.  This site just ensures that you'll actually get some reviews, which is really helpful.

Goodreads
Goodreads is the ultimate booklovers' site.  As an author, you can "drive awareness, buzz and sales with this highly engaged and influential audience of readers!"

For authors, they offer self-serve advertising. This allows you to promote your ebook on the site according to a targeted group of readers, according to genre, age, etc.  Click here for more information about their author's program.  http://www.goodreads.com/author/program

The Kindle Book Review
If you have had your book translated into a Kindle ebook, check out The Kindle Book Review. The Kindle Book Review does not receive payment for reviews.  What they do is give "a fair and honest review.  If a reviewer can’t get into your work, believes the book needs work, and/or is not eligible for a 3-star rating or higher, he or she is not required to write a review."  You can see their list of current reviewers on the page link above.

Addicted to eBooks
Addicted to eBooks is another great place to submit an ebook.  You do need to have at least five reviews on the Amazon US website before you can post.  However, it is another avenue for budget conscious authors to get the word out.

FreeBooksy
If you're willing to give away your ebook for free in order to get it in people's hands, FreeBooksy can be a way to get people to read your book and share it with their networks.  This site also offers a Facebook app and other services for authors.

It's time to start submitting your book!
