General Plastic Card Artwork
We provide templates for all our dies and it is important to confirm that your design fits correctly in our die templates.
PVC versus Polyester Material
Our Cards are Polyester Core - NOT PVC
Our cards use a polyester core with laminate on both sides while a credit card uses a PVC core with laminate on both sides. Both Polyester and PVC cards are 100% plastic and fully waterproof. Typically a PVC card is used for high volume applications like a credit card while polyester cards are used for shorter runs. Both are the same 30 mil thickness and are technically equivalent although PVC is slightly more rigid than Polyester. Our polyester core is a more expensive material than PVC and our process typically produces a higher quality image, permits very high quality variable data including photographs, is faster and more economical at lower volumes.
PVC CARDS
Our Cards ARE NOT PVC. Over 99% of our customers are extremely happy with our polyester core cards. While our cards are exactly the same thickness at 30 mil, a PVC card is more rigid. If you have doubts we will happily send you a sample pack so you can confirm this will work for your application. We have thousands of customers using our process ranging from. Library systems, Gyms, Parking Systems, Hotels and resturants, and many other applications.
Printing on our Plastic Cards with Your Printer
You Need to Test Your Printer with our Card
We have many customers that use their printer to print on top of our cards. We also have many customers that are unable to imprint our cards. There are many printer technologies and generations of printers so the only way to confirm is to request a sample package that we will send you to test BEFORE ORDERING.

Variable Data
Because we digitally print our plastic cards, we are able to provide full color variable printing anywhere on the card. Most plastic card manufacturers, print their cards on an offset press and use a black and white inkjet process to imprint variable information in open white areas. This process is much more limited and the inkjet quality does not compare with full color digital printing. Unlike inkjet, we can use variable printing of text or images in any color in any area.
To do a variable project, we need an excel (or delimited) file that has a row for each card and a column for each variable field. Here is an example of a typical layout and data file. If you are using variable photos, signatures, logos or other images, you need to make sure that each file is IDENTICAL in size both in height and width. If the image file is off by a single pixel, the design will be off. The images are inserted automatically not hand placed so errors in sizing will not be seen until the job is completed.
You should place the name of the image file in the Excel file and place the images together in a directory called "Images". In the example above, the image "p.rose.jpg" is the file name for the image file placed in the images directory and is listed in the row for Pamela Rose in Column "E". We are experts in variable data printing and can assist you on your project.
