Plastic Card Magnetic Strip File Setup

Plastic Card Magnetic Strip File Setup

We can provide your Gift Cards with a blank Mag Strip or we can Encode the strips with the data you provide. Normally you have a Point of Sale (POS) system that manages your gift or disccount card program and that system has data specifications for what needs to be written where. We do not know about your system and need your data to be prepared and submitted correctly. We can produce a "Encoding Proof" where we send you a few cards encoded with your data for testing.

The process is for you to submit a Excel file containing all the information to be written in Track 1 and or Track 2 which are the most commonly used. See the following instruction sheet on page three to see how to prepare your data.

Here is an overview of how to set up both the art file and the Excell File

Plastic Cards require larger margins than other printed materials because the have more steps involved in production. A plastic card requires printing, lamination and die cutting and each step has an expected error or tolerance. To allow for this, artwork needs to have a proper safety margin to ensure that all elements appear centered.

We provide templates of each product that shows a safety margin line inside the cut line showing you the limits for placing logos and text. Background images can extend beyond this safety line all the way to the "Bleed" line shown in pink.
